LOI Parties have KTIK Roots

The idea to start a National Letter of Intent Day college football signing celebration program in Boise came from a few different sources. Soon after KTIK launched the ALL SPORTS format 7/'94 ( great timing with BSU going to 1-AA Finals ), we added a web site and message board. I decided to let fans run wild with anonymous comments. At the time, I thought Boise needed a place for guys to act out and let it fly. Of course, the message board was dominated by Boise State football fans like BroncoBob. Bob now runs Bronco Stampede  and posts regularly at Bronco Country Scout.com site. Bob invited some of the regular posters from the KTIK Boise State football message board and created a new one that has morphed from a Delphi site into Bronco Country. Bob and others ( I really don't remember the details ) wanted to create a show to announce the recruits ala the way the SEC programs did it. I asked the 1997 Head Coach Houston Nutt for his input and he was surprised we didn't have one but thought it was a great idea. So, in February of 1998, KTIK launched the first LOI show, celebration or social of its kind for area fans at Busters on Broadway. Dirk Koetter was the coach by then and he came on via phone and discussed the class, we interviewed the other recruits by phone and even spoke to Vandal head Coach Chris Tormey .One of the big hits of the event, which was attended by probably 30-40 fans by my count, was passing out the official commit lists from Boise St, Idaho, Idaho State and pretty much the rest of the Big West. Fans scrambled for them and were so excited to see who each school did or didn't sign, kinda like Xmas morning.

The KTIK LOI show soon featured every BSU coach making an appearance but we needed more capacity. Crowds showed up at noon to claim a table and took all 150 seats. We moved from Busters to the Big Easy ( Knitting Factory ) where we generated 1000 fans on a stage with lights. The show ended its run with Boise St. coaches appearing around 2009 and Boise State started its own LOI program on campus.

We moved our LOI show to Buffalo Wild Wings in Meridian and still generated capacity crowds as did BSU. This Wednesday we move toMickey Rays BBQ  in Boise on Milwaukee in the former Macaroni Grill for the 16th annual LOI Show. We have tons of BSU merchandise to giveaway, $9.31 food/beer special, and Coach Pete's press conference starts it all at 1:30pm. Idaho Sports Talk with Caves and Prater begins after that and we will talk to almost every recruit. Join us.
