Lessons Learned in Logan

What good can come out of the 52-26 loss to Utah State for Bronco fans? A few reminders I learned.

Boise State IS the kind of team who can be beat like a drum on national TV. We can be embarrassed and pissed off about a self-destructing loss. Maybe we shouldn’t take all that national commentator gushing for granted or even believe it at all.

Don’t bad mouth Utah State. It’s now Boise State’s turn to practice recovery, faith in themselves and crediting other programs. Logan is too small of a town to recruit to? Utah State can’t win big games? Boise State just seems to kill them every time? TOSS IT OUT THE WINDOW. I will drive back to Logan with my window open.

Remember how it feels to have salt poured into a wound. On several Boise State turnovers and Utah State touchdowns, it seemed there was a video review. The fans had a chance to cheer wildly TWO times. Utah State threw for a first down on a fourth down conversion late in the game trying to score. That all should have burned deep.

You now have one more town to bow down to for Beating Boise State. You can add Logan to the list of cities that have an “I was there the night we beat Boise State” memory. Fans poured onto the field after it was over to bath in the joy of whipping Boise State. I have seen it in Fresno, Provo, and Reno. Probably other places as well that I would rather forget.

Not EVERYBODY respects Boise State. Take a road trip, sit with the opposing fans as close to the Boise State bench as possible. Listen to the stuff they yell at the players. Some Reno, Fresno, Fort Collins and even Logan fans are rated R and sometimes X. It will give you a different motivation to support your team.

Brett Rypien is not Kellen Moore. He didn’t red shirt. He forces things. He forgets to protect the ball. Maybe he is what Kellen would have been if he had played as a true freshman. He may still be best QB in MWC.

The offensive line isn’t all the problem in pass protection. Rypien has to get rid of the ball on time or side step pressure. RB’s have to pass protect consistently. Wr’s have to line up properly and adjust to the defense. It takes a village to throw the ball. It’s harder. That’s why you gotta run it!

Jeremy McNichols has no back up. Boise State has Rb’s who take his position but not replace his production. DJ Harper/Doug Martin and Jay Ajayi/Aaron Baltazar were dynamic duos and that is missing from this group.

Tipped, stripped or dropped. They all lead to losses and sometimes there is nothing you can do about it.
