PORTLAND STATE SENT HOME; AIR FORCE ON ITS WAY

The Boise State football team dominated after an even first quarter, five players scored and Curtis Weaver turned in a monster defensive performance as the No. 22 Broncos beat Portland State 45-10 before 31,068 fans at Albertsons Stadium on Saturday night.

John Hightower scored on a 98-yard kickoff return in the first quarter – after the FCS Vikings took a quick 3-0 lead – and he caught a 23-yard TD pass from Hank Bachmeier in the second quarter.

Backup quarterback Chase Cord had a single run in the first quarter, a 7-yarder to give Boise State a 14-3 lead, and he finished the game in the second half by throwing TD passes to CT Thomas (33 yards) and Stefan Cobbs (44).

Bachmeier, who was sacked three times and hit many more, was 16-of-25 for 238 yards and TD passes to Hightower and Thomas (9 yards) before giving way to Cord early in the third quarter. Bachmeier also threw his third interception of the season (he has four TDs).

Weaver tied the school record with four sacks, and has 26.5 for his career, the most among all active FBS players. Boise State’s defense didn’t allow a point in the second half for the third consecutive game.

The Broncos open Mountain West play against Air Force on Friday at Albertsons Stadium (2 p.m. pre-game show on 93.1 KTIK The Ticket, 7 p.m. kickoff, followed by the Bronco Game Night postgame show). Air Force is 2-0 after beating Colorado 30-23 in overtime on Saturday.
