Reflections on Boise State’s riveting 33-30 victory over Virginia Tech last night before the plane takes off this morning. Craig James made a big deal Sunday of the Broncos needing to win big to show they belong.

Five-year and 30-year perspectives on Monday’s matchup...presented by Mr. Handyman.

There are some naysayers out there as Boise State threatens a run to the national championship game this season. One of the things they like to point to is the Georgia game five years ago today, the 48-13 annihilation in Athens.

One Bronco group surely knows what it’s all about...presented by Franz Witte Nursery.

It’s clear that, even if Boise State is able to pry open some running lanes Monday night against Virginia Tech, the receiving corps is going to have to come up big. First downs, touchdowns, no drops. The Broncos couldn’t be better set up to do it.

BYU’s new marriage with the WCC is too weird for words...presented by Tribute Media.

Well, it’s happened. BYU has pulled the trigger on the Mountain West, going independent in football and to the West Coast Conference in other sports. What’s done is done, and I go back to three original thoughts when this whole thing first came down two weeks ago.

Martin hopes to pick up where he left off in January...presented by Franz Witte Nursery.

The last time we saw Doug Martin officially, he was flipping into the end zone with Boise State’s winning touchdown at University of Phoenix Stadium. Now he’ll retain his place on the big stage on Labor Day.

After the Bronco Stadium track is moved to Dona Larsen Park, and the money is found for the first phase of the planned stadium expansion, where will Boise State begin? Athletic director Gene Bleymaier dropped hints at Friday’s press conference.

Pete doesn’t share others' nervousness over O-line...presented by Tribute Media.

Ten days before the next “biggest game in school history,” Boise State’s singular area of apprehension would appear to be the ability of its offensive line to get the running game going. Which brings the Alfred E. Neuman out in Chris Petersen.

Vacation put me behind the eight-ball on this. But, as impactful as Boise State’s appearance on the Sports Illustrated cover was, I’ve always preferred the meat in the Sporting News. Before we let go of SN’s College Football Preview, let’s hit on some of the highlights.

Thayer Evans, the senior college football writer for Fox Sports.com, was in town during fall camp to cover Boise State. Evans dug up something I hadn’t heard yet. It’s this year’s Bronco motto.

It’s college sports in 2010—why should any of this surprise us?...presented by Tribute Media.

And we thought that one week in June was bizarre. One day in August has topped it. Just hours after it appeared the WAC would pull off an historic coup, the conference was left reeling by the departures of Fresno State and Nevada.

Bad decision by BYU? Bad one for the Mountain West regardless...presented by the Pool Doctor Store.

The rumors are running rampant that BYU is leaving the Mountain West and going independent in football—and joining the WAC in all other sports. The effect it would have on the Mountain West is immeasurable.

Peer pressure propels Broncos to new plateaus...presented by the Ashley Inn of Cascade.

The subject of peer pressure within the Boise State football program has come up more than once the past month. It started with player-run practices. It’s been understood for a long time that every player voluntarily stays in Boise during the summer.

The ol’ quandary: how much to attribute to defense?...presented by Tribute Media.

It’s safe to assume the strength of the Boise State defense against the run can help account for the net zero rushing yards posted by the offense in the Broncos’ first fall camp scrimmage. But you can’t assume Virginia Tech isn’t capable of run stoppage.

The hype starts to make one a bit dizzy...presented by Clearview Cleaning.

You almost wonder if it wouldn’t be better for Boise State if it could hang a foot over the edge and slow this merry-go-round down. The Broncos were back on the front page of SI.com yesterday, this time with a prediction that they’ll help define the new decade.

Got the dreadlocks and the feet—and an entirely different persona...presented by Tribute Media.

If the Boise State staff is moving a first-team All-WAC left tackle to left guard, it must feel pretty good about left tackle. The intriguing personality there—and I do mean personality—is sophomore Faraji Wright.

The Statesman did a pretty good job of keeping this under wraps. But photog Joe Jaszewski can spill the beans today. Boise State is indeed on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s College Football Preview issue.
