Where will new Boise St OC come from?

Looking back at the past may tell us a little about how the future of the Boise State football staff is going to look. Or, maybe how it is not. Here is a timeline:

1998-2000. Dirk Koetter is Boise St Head Coach. He is also the Offensive Coordinator and calls the plays. Mark Helfrich is his QB coach.  OL Coach Brent Meyers carries OC title but doesnt call plays 98-99. Fishy.

2001-2005. Dan Hawkins is Head Coach. Helfrich leaves with Koetter for Arizona St. Former Oregon WR coach Chris Petersen is new OC/QB coach.

2006-2010- Chris Petersen is Head Coach. TE coach Bryan Harsin becomes new OC/QB coach.

2011- WR coach Brent Pease takes Indiana OC job. 2 weeks later, Bryan Harsin leaves for Texas OC job. Pease returns as OC/QB coach. Robert Prince is hired as WR coach.

2012- Coach Pease leaves for Florida. WR coach Robert Prince is the new OC/WR coach.  Former Montana OC Jonathon Smith is new QB coach.

2013- Prince is OC/WR. Smith is QB.

2014- Bryan Harsin is new Head Coach. Mike Sanford is QB/OC.

2015?

Every one of the coaches above played QB in college with the exception of Robert Prince and Brent Meyers. Since 1998, when a Head Coach needed to replace an OC , that person came from within the program, usually a WR coach.

Boise State’s current offensive coaches have one year of OC experience combined. And that was as a co-offensive coordinator. TE coach Eliah Drinkwitz is that man. Drinkwitz never played college football let alone QB. He called the plays at Arkansas State the second half of the 2013 season. With Harsin calling the plays, Arkansas St was 3-4. They went 5-1 with The Drink. Harsin told Chadd Cripe of the Idaho Statesman that Drink is a ‘Supercomputer’. If Drink is the man, he breaks the mold for Boise State.
