If Leon Rice doesn’t get the St Louis job, does Boise State become a runner up? Can he be happy here or just happy enough until a better job opens up?
Will we ever know?
We can say that it is his right to look around or there is no harm in looking but that’s not the case in high profile positions like his. These searches are kept private for a reason or coaches would speak openly about other jobs. And, Leon seems to be a “aw, shucks” humble, positive person, who stays out of the spotlight.
So, if he spoke, would anybody hear it?
Fans USUALLY don’t like learning their coach has interviewed elsewhere anyway. Especially when they have to be convinced about why St. Louis is a better job. To Leon’s’ credit, he hasn’t said a word and may never. Maybe he was approached and paid them a courtesy visit. Maybe he has an agent and wants out of Boise State. If he ever does speak about the job, he will have to sell why St. Louis was a better job and that won’t sound right anyway.
He won’t say much. Never really does.
To me, little is known about Leon and his personality. He hasn’t won enough of the big games to have fans starving to know every detail about his life. And, he hasn’t lost enough to have fans calling for his head and put himself in a position to defend his program. He may like it that way or there isn’t much to be fascinated about. Maybe St Louis will find out. Maybe they won’t.
