BOISE, Idaho – Two more members of the Boise State football team were tabbed as postseason award candidates Thursday, as defensive tackle David Moa and offensive lineman Archie Lewis were both named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, given annually to college football’s top interior lineman, and Moa was also named to the watch list of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to college football’s top defensive player.

The announcements bring the total number of watch lists to include Moa this preseason to three, as he was previously named a candidate for the Bednarik Award Monday. For Lewis, it is his first-career individual selection to a national watch list.

Moa enjoyed a breakout season in 2016, also being named to the All-Mountain West First Team after leading the Broncos with 8.5 sacks while posting 10.5 tackles-for-loss among his 30 tackles (17 solo) from the nosetackle spot. The San Diego native also knocked down four passes at the line of scrimmage and blocked a field goal in the final seconds against BYU on Oct. 20, preserving Boise State’s 28-27 victory.

His sack total ranked second in the Mountain West, and Moa’s overall play garnered national attention as he was a 2016 midseason addition to the watch lists of the Outland Trophy, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Polynesian College Footbal Player of the Year award.

Lewis, who started all 13 games for the Broncos in 2016, was, along with the rest of the Bronco offensive line, a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award, given to college football’s top offensive line unit. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native was part of a Bronco offensive line that last year paved the way for the Mountain West’s top offense at 472.8 yards per game and helped provide protection in a passing offense that ranked 15th in the country with 298.3 passing yards per game. The Bronco tackle also helped clear a path for running back Jeremy McNichols, who ranked fifth in the country with 1,709 rushing yards and marked the eighth-straight season in which Boise State produced a 1,000-yard back.

The Outland Trophy presentation banquet will be held on Jan. 10, 2018 in Omaha, Neb., while the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet will be held on Dec. 4 in Charlotte, N.C.

Boise State will open its 2017 campaign Saturday, Sept. 2 at Albertsons Stadium, hosting Troy at 1:45 p.m.
