BOISE STATE FOOTBALL: Broncos beat Utah State to clinch MW Mountain Division title; host Fresno State in league title game Saturday

BOISE – Boise State cranked out 509 yards of offense, held Utah State’s nationally-ranked offense to 25 points under its average, and the 23rd-ranked Broncos won their seventh straight game by knocking off the No. 21 Aggies 33-24 at Albertsons Stadium on Saturday night.

Boise State (10-2, 7-1) will host Fresno State (10-2, 7-1) at 5:45 p.m. Saturday in the Mountain West championship game. Final bowl berths will be announced Sunday, Dec. 2.

Senior quarterback Brett Rypien, before 35,960 fans on Senior Night, threw for 310 yards and a touchdown, and junior running back Alexander Mattison had 200 yards and three TDs against Utah State (10-2, 7-1). He’s rushed for 136, 144, 145 and 200 yards in four of his past five games.

Boise State played a turnover-free game and held the Aggies to four third-down conversions despite quarterback Jordan Love throwing for 363 yards and three scores.

Boise State won for the 113th straight time at home when leading going into the fourth quarter, the longest streak in the nation. The seven-game winning streak is tied for the fifth longest active streak in FBS.

MW TICKET INFORMATION

Tickets for next Saturday’s game in Boise can be purchased at BroncoSports.com/tickets, by calling (208) 426-4737 or at the ticket office on the west side of Albertsons Stadium.

Season ticket holders can log into their accounts to purchase their same seats and print them at home. These seats will be held until Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The ticket office will be open during regular business hours this week, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday. The Albertsons Stadium ticket office opens at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $45 in the main stadium, $35 in the curves and south end zone and $20 in the north end zone. Student tickets are free, and student guest and part-time student tickets are $10. Student ticket reservations will begin Monday, Nov. 26 at 8 a.m.

POST-GAME NOTES … 

Boise State is the only Group of Five member school to defeat at least six bowl eligible teams this year (Troy, Wyoming, Nevada, BYU, Fresno State, Utah State). … The Broncos secured their 16th 10-win season since joining Division I-A (now FBS) in 1996 (second only to Ohio State’s 17 during that span). … Boise State will host the Mountain West championship game for the third time, the most of any league member. The Broncos won the title in 2014 and 2017, both against Fresno State. … Rypien threw for 310 yards to set a Mountain West record with his 21st career 300-yard passing game. … Sophomore Kekaula Kaniho’s interception in the first quarter was his third this season and fourth in his career (and his second straight week with a pick). … Mattison ran for a season-high 200 yards and three touchdowns on a career-high 37 carries. It was his fourth game of at least 100 yards over the past five contests. Mattison is tied with Brock Forsey and Ian Johnson for fourth in Broncos’ history with two 200-yard rushing games. His 37 carries are the third most in Boise State single-game history. Mattison scored a rushing touchdown for the sixth consecutive game when he found paydirt from two yards out in the first quarter. He added a 1-yard score in the second quarter for his fifth multi-rushing touchdown game of the season and third in the last-four outings. Mattison has recorded at least one rushing touchdown in all six home games this season and seven straight on The Blue dating back to last year. … Wide receiver CT Thomas hauled in six passes for a career-high 89 yards. … Sophomore tight end John Bates hauled in a career-best 30-yard reception in the second quarter to set up Mattison’s second touchdown of the game (1 yard) that gave Boise State a 17-7 lead. … Junior STUD Sam Whitney notched his first sack of the season when he corralled Jordan Love on third down late in the third quarter. … Junior Garrett Collingham made his first-career touchdown reception with a 1-yard score in the fourth quarter. … Sophomore STUD Curtis Weaver tied his career-high with seven tackles.
