Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Hunter Strickland landed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right shoulder inflammation.
The Angels recalled right-hander Victor Mederos from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.
Strickland told reporters in Anaheim that he will undergo an MRI on Tuesday and was hopeful about the results.
The 36-year-old veteran reliever is in his second season with the Angels, his eighth major league club. He has gotten into 19 games this year, including Sunday, when he threw one perfect inning in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Strickland owns a 1-2 record and a 3.27 ERA across 22 innings this year. He is 26-25 with a 3.39 ERA in 499 relief appearances all-time.
Mederos, 24, made one three-inning appearance for the Angels this season back in April. He scattered two runs on two hits and three walks for a 6.00 ERA. He has made 11 starts at Salt Lake this season and is 5-4 with a 4.09 ERA there.
