Tyler O’Neill homered for the third consecutive game and the Baltimore Orioles beat the visiting Colorado Rockies 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano (8-5) worked six innings for the victory, giving up one run on four hits.
O’Neill’s two-run homer in the third inning came after teammate Dylan Carlson’s two-run single in the second.
Baltimore won the final two games of the three-game series, building on Saturday night’s 18-0 trouncing of the Rockies.
Warming Bernabel, in his second game in the major leagues, homered for the Rockies.
Austin Gomber (0-5) gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings, with Colorado losing a game for the seventh consecutive time that he started.
Aside from Bernabel, the other five hits for the Rockies, who’ve lost two in a row since a three-game winning streak, were singles. Colorado batters struck out 12 times.
It was a solid effort from Sugano, who had pitched a season-low 3 2/3 innings in his previous outing. He struck out eight and issued two walks.
Reliever Yennier Cano worked around a pair of walks for a scoreless seventh. Andrew Kittredge and Seranthony Dominguez also worked out of the Baltimore bullpen with an inning apiece to close out the game.
No player in the game had more than one hit. Colorado left eight runners on base, with its batters going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Bernabel’s second-inning homer opened the scoring, providing a highlight for the 23-year-old infielder.
Carlson’s run-producing hit in the bottom of the inning put the Orioles up 2-1. Carlson has back-to-back games with at least one RBI for the first time since May at the big-league level.
Then O’Neill’s sixth homer of the season came in the third, pushing the edge to 4-1.
Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson scored his second run of the game on Jaden Hill’s wild pitch in the eighth.
The Rockies dropped to 13-40 in road games.
