Washington Wizards forward Justin Champagnie underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his right foot, the team announced Wednesday.
Champagnie sustained the injury during the first quarter of Monday’s 110-103 loss to the host Charlotte Hornets.
While the Wizards did not provide a timeline for Champagnie’s recovery, The Athletic reported that the team is hoping the 25-year-old can return by the All-Star break.
Champagnie was off to a strong start in the first three games this season, averaging career highs in minutes (23.1), points (9.0), and rebounds (9.3). He played only 3:55 and had two points and two rebounds on Monday in Charlotte.
For his career, Champagnie averages 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 17.5 minutes in 191 regular-season games (51 starts) for the Toronto Raptors (2021-23), Boston Celtics (April-July 2023) and Wizards (February 2024-present).
He is the twin brother of San Antonio Spurs forward Julian Champagnie.
The Wizards face the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road Wednesday night and the Hornets at home on Friday.
