Juiced Up

I started my juice cleanse after a recommendation from son Tyson who works at Tree City of Boise and Meridian. I was going to do it with him and my wife but they got advised that winter is not the time for them to do it because their body would fight being cold. So we cancelled. Once I found out my blood pressure was high and I had to get it down, I decided to jump start a weight loss program. So why not a juice cleanse? I never get cold so that didn’t worry me. Tree City has a 3 day and 5 day cleanse so I decided to start small and went for a three day. I had nothing to do over Presidents Day weekend so I went for it. I paid Tree City $120 for 18 sixteen ounce bottles of freshly squeezed veggie and fruit juice. I picked it up in a box and started immediately. I had been dieting so I was fairly prepared.

After reading up on this process more though I found I wasn’t prepared enough.

Here is all you need to know about before, during and after. Know it all

I drank a bottle of juice every two hours in a specific order and water in between.  I would recommend you do it the same way I did. Go with a 3 day weekend with no commitments. I WOULD NOT WANT TO WORK ON ANY OF THE 3 DAYS. Have movies, errands, reading or writing to do. You will get bursts of energy to clean the garage, do laundry, or do 2 hours of shopping and its good for you. You will have up to 6-8 hours a day where you don’t have any energy. For me that was between 3pm-9pm. You can get light headed easily especially Day 1 and part of Day 2. I highly recommend a wheat grass shot after your first juice of the day. I planned most of my activity for between 9am-3pm and it worked out. The only juice I liked all three days was the Grapefruit Mint. The others, VITARIFIC and CAB especially, grew on me by Day 3 but were not that great. I didn’t exercise but did have energy for chores. I had headaches the first day, eventually got diarrhea and was moodier than usual. Soon though I had a clear mind and felt some freedom from old habits. I was almost normal by Day 3.  You can read more detail on how I felt through the three days on the KTIK Facebook page. My first “meal” was half a banana and some NAKED Green Juice. My stomach rumbled and I felt uneasy. By the end of the day, it all felt better, BUT while the diarrhea has went away now I may be constipated. SHEESH.

I lost seven pounds, my blood pressure dropped 18 points and I have found it is much easier to stick with new eating habits. I am following the post cleanse routine now and plan to change my habits eliminating pre work out drinks, energy drinks and coffee. It’s bad for high blood pressure and I can get my energy up with a better fruit, vegetable and fish/poultry diet.  I would recommend it to kick start your way to a new routine. See Tyson at the Tree City on Capitol and he will hook you up.
