Boise State:
Early on in the BSU-BYU football game I had the feeling it wouldn't be the Broncos night. Whatever the coaching staff had game-planned, it wasn't working early. I expected to see more designed runs for Grant Hedrick. Some of Hedrick's throws did not look good at all, and many that were on the mark were dropped. I have no doubt that if Joe Southwick had been able to play, the game would have been much closer. But this was a team loss. It's hard to single out any position group.
The Boise State defense made some nice adjustments after halftime but, their DB's were still outmatched in size. I will take a 6'4" receiver over a 5’9" cornerback every time. Fumbles are going to happen, but how many are acceptable for Jay Ajayi? He has rushed for over 900 yards and 12 touchdowns. With Ajayi's big play potential you have to keep giving him the ball and live with an occasional fumble. Personally I would like to see him get a few more carries per game.
So For the third time this season Boise State will need to regroup from a loss and play much better in a road game at Colorado State.
Music:
Lou Reed, a member of the rock group "The Velvet Underground" died on Sunday at the age of 71. Although they were before my time, I give credit to any band that has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I will leave it to smarter people than me to figure out their legacy. I have never been a fan of Reed's solo hit "Walk on the Wild Side." As a matter of fact, it's on my list of songs I don't care if I ever hear again. Van Halen's version of "Pretty Woman" makes that list too along with “Katmandu" by Bob Seger.
Movies:
I saw the movie "Gravity" on Saturday. I would give it a review of "one small coke” and "one small popcorn." The visual effects were impressive. Sandra Bullock was good, but the plot was thin. I was hoping for a little more story and less of astronauts slamming into spacecrafts.
And finally:
It often amazes me what some people of Boise find to complain about. The new building at the corner of 8th and Main is an impressive addition to the Boise skyline. Yet some people have found the time to express their displeasure that the spire on top of the building makes it look like an LDS Temple. I am not Mormon but I think the building looks good the way it is.
