Change the Rules

I find it hard to believe the NFL would actually eliminate the P.A.T. from the game of football. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said there may come a time when the extra point could be abolished. This led to a discussion on The Bob and Murph show about changes to rules in sports. I made a list of the top five changes I would like to see.

5. College football: I would change the overtime rule so that teams started on the 35 yard line instead of the 25 yard line. Teams are automatically put into scoring position before having to run a play. By moving teams back 10 yards they would at least be forced to make a first down or try a long field goal to score.

4. Major League Baseball: I would make a rule so relief pitchers would have to face at least 2 batters, except in the case of injury or the last out. I hate when a slow game is brought to a crawl as we wait for pitcher after pitcher to warm up.

3. NFL: I have always disliked the NFL rule that allows a touchdown for simply "breaking the plane" of the goal line. That's too easy! Change the rule so the entire ball has to cross the plane of the goal line. Players don't even need to control the ball through the entire play as long as it breaks the plane.

2. PGA Tour: Stop allowing fans to call in rules violations on players. Golfers police their own game for the most part. I would say their percentage of getting the rules correct is better than sports with referees. Television viewers are not allowed to call in rules violations in other sports. If that was the case, the NBA league office would be getting constant calls about my number one change!

1. NBA: It's been said a million times, but here's one more. The traveling call in the NBA is virtually non-existent. NBA players take more free steps in a game than the steps Rocky Balboa climbed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  Watch this video! I rest my case! Enforce traveling!
