"Just another day at the office." That's what Boise State running back Jay Ajayi told the media after the Broncos 37-24 win over Colorado State Saturday night. Ajayi rushed 33 times for 219 yards/2 TD's and caught three passes for 61 yards/1 TD. All of that just a week after he had 32 touches for 179 yards/1 TD versus Ole Miss.
During spring and fall camps, Ajayi said a number of times he was ready and wants to carry the load for the Broncos. It sure looks like he is ready to me.
With a small stable of big playmakers, the Boise State offense has little choice but to ride the Ajayi Express. At least until a team proves they can stop him. In 2013, Ajayi averaged almost 21 touches per game for just over six yards per play. In the first two games this year, he is up to 34.5 per game while averaging 6.57 per play. If this pace continues, Ajayi is in for an incredible season.
Ajayi is a power back with finesse and incredible balance. Defenders rarely get a good hit on him. In the Colorado State game I only remember one play where he was hit hard. He is built to carry the load. Eventually teams will key on Ajayi more, opening the offense to Boise State's other offensive weapons. Until then, get him the ball and watch him do his magic because it really is a treat to see.
