Almost all 28 points for Air Force came off Boise State turn overs. The Boise State defense played well enough to win and was dealt a bad hand by the offense repeatedly.
I can live with that.
It happens.
What is harder to accept is the lack of play makers on this team at the skill positions and the lack of a dominant o line.
Its all about the lack of talent , especially on offense, to me.
Makes me wonder if Coach Pete's insistence on Our Kinda Guy's cost the team. If his stern discipline cost the team depth. And the recruiting luck has run out.
Yes, when it works out, low ego, high output players can be BCS champions. But, when you miss on those OKG's, they can lack explosiveness, toughness and high athletic talent. This team looks like they have suffered from a lot of misses and Coach Pete's discipline. Lee Hightower, Sam Ukwuachu, Aaron Baltazar, Hayden Plinke and Jeff Worthy are just some of the players who are missing off this years roster who were at Boise State. It was in the best interest of those individuals growth that they be dismissed but in the short term bad for the team. Some of the best players Boise State ever produced came to them by chance. Kellen Moore, Kory Hall, Ryan Clady, Daryn Colledge, Doug Martin, Shea McClellin and many more were not 3 or 4 star guys. That's an old story.
But, the lack of a QB is what hurts this team the most.
And they better get this figured out.
I just don't understand why Boise State hasn't consistently produced a top tier QB since Kellen Moore 's emergence as a red shirt sophomore. And Coach Pete was not convinced on Moore when he signed him, Justin Wilcox had to bet the house on him. The cast of QB's who have not worked out is stunning given the pedigree Boise State offers. And, at this point, Grant Hedrick is destined to be an above average quarterback who can't win against the best opponents. Tamburo, Southwick, Hedrick, Laughrea, and Patti have all tried to take the baton from Kellen Moore and not come close. This is what ails the program the most to me.
Maybe Harsin and Sanford can fix this and Findley or Rypien is the answer because the question won't go away.
