I don't watch many Boise State football games from the press box at Albertsons Stadium or on the road. I experience the game the way most do.
In the stands or, sometimes, on the sideline.
For Boise State home games, I sit in the Stueckle Sky Center club seats area. I would prefer a lodge box but I have not convinced myself it was time to spend that kind of dough. I like the open air, roar of the crowd and energy. The lodge boxes have chairs on wheels, a TV for replays and access to drinks, concessions and bathrooms with no lines. The boxes are closer to the field than my club seats and you can hear the crowd the way the players do. My experience at Albertsons stadium is the higher you sit the less you hear and feel the crowd noise. The club seats are almost enclosed and you don't get a good feel for the intensity level of the crowd. I choose high back bar stool seating in the very back with a counter top so I am comfortable. And, the concessions and restrooms are great.
The press box on the other hand is all business.
Most of the guys sitting in there are working and it is dead quiet. You don't hear the crowd well at all. I can't sit with my wife, who is a big fan, and doesn't have a seat in there. You can be asked to leave if you make too much noise, laugh too loud or cheer for any team. It is like being in a library watching a football game that you have a rooting interest in. But, you do have access to power, wi-fi, TV replays, stats and free food. I do like seeing some of the people I have known for years up there but I pass at home and on the road. I openly care about how Boise State plays and that wouldn't be the place for me for too long, especially during a tight game. In an ideal world, I would be on the sidelines for every game. But at home I am not allowed and I am on the road sometimes.
I prefer to experience the game as a coach or player does. I like to be as close to the action as possible and that is the ultimate spot. I don't care about bathrooms, concessions or even sitting down. I use the stadium replays and don't talk to anybody generally. My media pass doesn't allow me on the sidelines for home games until the end of the 4th quarter and my wife isn't allowed at all. So, I don't go down there. When I travel by myself to games, I sometimes am allowed on the sidelines and that's where I stay.
Gladly.
