The Boise State men’s basketball team played in Albuquerque vs the University of New Mexico at The Pit on Sunday. Or did they play in University Arena? Or, was it WisePies Arena? Or WisePies Arena aka The Pit?

Sounds like the marketing guys are calling the shots. Just like I like it!

The Pit is an awesome facility that was dug down instead of up. I am good with the school trying to pay off the debt for the remodeled basketball facilities at UNM. They took $500,000 a year from the owners of WisePies, a local pizza chain, for 10 years and felt they owed them something. So, they changed the University Arena name nobody used to WisePies Arena and put a sign up. Somewhere. I checked the front of the UNM Basketball website and didn’t see a word about WisePies Arena. Even the book store ad screams that their location is at The Pit! Game stories read that games were played at WisePies Arena/The Pit and then refer to The Pit the rest of the story. The facilities section of the site shows a picture of the front of The Pit and I see nothing about WisePies Arena. The owner of WisePies doesn’t even care what you call it. He said he knew nobody would ever call it anything but The Pit.  I am not even mentioning that the court they play on is named after Bob King. All 3 logos were on the court for TV to capture.

I would have called it WisePies Pit for what that’s worth.

So, I hope the media gets in the proper mentions when the Lobos play on Bob King Court in The Pit at WisePies Arena! Come on Prater!
