Finley out and Rypien in, Forever?

Ryan Finley broke a bone in his foot or ankle IMHO. It buckled underneath him and he couldn’t bear weight on it. At the least he is out for a few weeks. I expect we will get the news during the Sunday presser with Coach Harsin. Hard to hide a guy on crutches around campus. Maybe he can put a boot on it. I hope he doesn’t go bitter. He was finding his stride and some fans were impatient. His status now depends on how Brett Rypien plays. I don’t think it is his job to have when he is healthy. As long as Rypien makes progress, he is the guy. I think Finley is tough, very competitive and confident. I could see him want to play period. Anywhere. He wasn’t recruited by this staff yet they chose him as the starter.  So he may have some loyalty and he may not. Unlike the other Boise St QB’s before him who broke their ankle , Finley wasn’t established enough as the starter. I also get the feeling that Rypien will have a good to great run. He has no ranked opponents, only one Power 5 school, and 4 home games. Finley never got a chance to show what he could do and I don’t know if he ever will unless Rypien gets hurt. He deserves the fans support and consideration.

Brett Rypien has a great arm and sure seemed poised in his debut. Even though he forgot to put in his mouth piece. I really like what I heard from Eliah Drinkwitz about Rypien too.  Rypien expects to be playing. He now gets his chance. He got 26 snaps vs.  Idaho State and went 8-9 for 126 yards with no TD’s and interceptions. Finley went 33 plays vs Air Force in his first action and was 12-25 for 161 yards with 2 TD’s and 1 interception. Things change when you are the starter. The Virginia game will be a great test.
