Former Boise Hawks manager Gary Van Tol, a Boise resident, will be introduced as Boise State’s new baseball coach during a Tuesday press conference on campus, a source has confirmed to KTIK 93.1 The Ticket.

Boise State plans to start competing in baseball in the winter/spring of 2020. The university plans to build a new on-campus stadium to support the new Mountain West baseball program.
Van Tol managed in the Northwest League three of the past four seasons, all with the Chicago Cubs organization: Boise Hawks (2013, 41-35), Hawks (2014, 41-35) and Eugene Emeralds (2015, 38-38). He was the Emeralds bench coach in 2016-17.
Van Tol, who played for the Canadian National Team and Gonzaga, has coached at the college level for Treasure Valley Community College, Centralia College, Portland and Gonzaga.
Van Tol's hire will be controversial for 2 reasons: Bitterness from wrestlers and his wife's status as a senior AD at BSU. Bottom line: Best man for job. Smart/experienced, good people person, grinder, very well connected in college/MLB world, emotionally connected to community. https://t.co/J17Cks72a4
