Jeff Caves claims to have been in dozens of television commercials. Thankfully, I have only seen a few. His latest is for Western Heating and Cooling. By all means you should trust your air conditioner and furnace to the fine folks at Western Heating and Cooling. This commercial correctly got that point across. However, in my quest to protect the game of golf, I must point out a few problems I had with the final product. First, and foremost, the commercial was shot at Eagle Hills Golf Course. Everyone knows that Caves is a North End elitist. If he was to play golf it would be at Crane Creek Country Club, as to not wander too far from his home in the foothills.
Let’s dissect the first screenshot:
By the white shade of his legs, Caves should definitely be wearing a cap to prevent heat stroke and potential skin cancer. You can tell by the position of his head that he was lucky to have even hit the ball at all. Notice where his eyes are looking in relation to the tee. By not rotating his shoulders and hips through, Caves most likely pushed the shot right, although the ball rolled right past the hole. (an obvious camera trick)
Screenshot two:
In the video the golf ball hit directly in front of the hole, bounced a couple of times, then rolled past the hole. However, in screenshot four, Caves is clearly putting from the side of the hole instead of behind the hole. You can tell by the location of the fairway in the background. (obviously the evergreens made a better backdrop)
Screenshot three:
Notice how Caves is carrying a single club while Larry Polowski is carrying his bag. Perhaps Caves was so caught up in his “perfect” shot that he forgot his bag at the tee box. Also, by the looks of these two, it would have been better for them to rent a cart, thus warding off a potential heart attack.
Screenshot four:
For a double-digit handicapper, Caves shows good form on his putt. On the other hand, Larry Polowski is crowding Caves by giving him just a few feet of space. Back off Larry!
Screenshot five:
This is the most disturbing of all. Caves sinks his putt for birdie and then immediately proceeds to “chat” with Larry. Notice that back in the fairway there is a group waiting to approach the green! The Marshall at Eagle Hills would have every right to chastise Caves and Polowski for holding them up. If it were me, I would have let out a few choice words like “hey, move it you dumb JEFF!”
Final screenshot:
Polowski rolls a perfect putt and the two give a disturbing high-5 when a fist bump would have been more appropriate. So don’t be like Caves on the golf course, but do call Western Heating and Cooling for all your HVAC needs!
